Michael Jordan Sets A New Record: Videos Viewed More Than Eight Million Times
Basketball legend Michael Jordan has proven to be a fan favorite among cigar lovers. The series of videos shot during an interview between Michael Jordan and Marvin R. Shanken, the editor and publisher of Cigar Aficionado magazine, have reached new heights, recently surpassing a combined total of 8.1 million views between the magazine website and YouTube channel.
The most popular video is undoubtedly the hour-long, complete interview footage between Jordan and Shanken, which has now been viewed more than 3.6 million times. It’s the most popular video in the magazine’s history.
The videos are a product of a 2017 interview shot at The Bear’s Club in Jupiter, Florida. Jordan, who seldom gives interviews, joined Shanken for a rare sit-down for a cover story that would appear in Cigar Aficionado’s 25th anniversary edition from November of 2017.
The series of videos offered Cigar Aficionado fans a unique glimpse behind the curtains of a worldwide superstar. In Jordan’s wide-ranging conversation with Shanken, the basketball legend talked about his deep passion for cigars (he averages about six a day), his thoughts on golf, business and much more. In another popular clip from the interview, Jordan discusses his visit to Cuba and his favorite smokes, and that clip alone now has more than 2.1 million views.
Cigar Aficionado’s YouTube page, which is updated weekly, features much more beyond the Michael Jordan interview. A clip with icon Arnold Schwarzenegger, where he demonstrates a unique smoking technique, recently surpassed 1.5 million views.
