Tabacalera A. Fuente y Cia.

Tabacalera A. Fuente y Cia.

In 1912, a young Cuban émigré named Arturo Fuente began making cigars in West Tampa, Florida. More than 100 years later, his namesake brand has grown into one of the world’s most critically acclaimed cigars. Tabacalera A. Fuente y Cia. now makes more than 30 million cigars a year in Santiago, Dominican Republic, run by Carlos Fuente Jr., grandson of Arturo Fuente himself. Fuente makes a host of brands in a variety of styles, from milder smokes wearing Connecticut shade wrappers to bold powerhouses wrapped in Cuban-seed leaf grown in the Dominican Republic. Fuente Jr. is known for his creativity as a blender, and his Hemingway series of perfectos, wrapped in Cameroon leaf, brought cigars of unusual shape back to the American cigar market in the 1980s.
