Rocky Patel Announces New Nicaraguan Edge

Rocky Patel Premium Cigars has a major release coming to smoke shops this summer, and one of the company’s new limited-edition cigars will soon be made available to the public.

Company executive Nish Patel spoke about the Nicaraguan version of The Edge, a cigar being made at the Tavicusa factory in Estelí, Nicaragua. He explained how the new smoke will be rolled differently than the original Edge, but with the taste of early Edge cigars.

The Edge is Rocky Patel’s biggest seller. Originally released in 2004, Edge is rolled at the El Parasio Factory in Honduras. The cigars debuted without bands and came in crates of 100, but the naked presentation made them easier to counterfeit, said Patel, so the cigar was later given a foot band. The Honduran-made Edge comes in four varieties: Corojo, Maduro, Light and Sumatra.

Like the regular Edge, the Nicaraguan Edge will be rolled with Nicaraguan binder and filler leaf. But Patel says it will be a stronger smoke. “We wanted to change up the flavor profile. We want it to be complex and smooth, but with tons of flavor,” said Patel.

In addition to the new version of The Edge, Patel told Cigar Aficionado that another of the company’s lines will be expanding in distribution. For more on this, see today’s Cigar Insider.

Nicaragua The Edge
"These are the most difficult cigars I have EVER smoked. Super-tight draw making me see stars just to get a drag, going out if they are set down for more than 5 seconds...I even had an entire wrapper come off my hands when I cut it! So far, out of 3 sticks, 1 and 3/4 of them have ended up in the trash. The construction on these is crap, as evidenced by the fact that several reviews on JR Cigars say the same thing. No thanks.
