From the French company that brought us ultra-sharp cigar knives and sleek concrete ashtrays, Les Fines Lames has designed a cigar cutter meant to resemble military dog tags, and it was released today.

In a short period of time, Les Fines Lames, which started in 2015, has made a name for itself as a provider of luxury cigar accessories. Its newest release, “Le Tag,” is another example. Positioned at the intersection between jewelry and cigar accessory, Le Tag is a double-blade, stainless-steel guillotine cutter attached as a centerpiece to a steel-chain necklace.

Le Tag

As you can probably surmise, Le Tag T-135 was inspired by army-style dog tags. But it is meant to be more than just a piece of jewelry that cuts cigars. Les Fines Lames brands Le Tag as a conversation starter, a bold statement for someone who isn’t shy about identifying as a cigar smoker. The necklace also hangs low, all the way down to the bottom of your chest, so if you wish to keep it on while cutting your cigar, you can. If you're not in the mood to make a bold statement, you can just as easily place Le Tag in your coat like a pocket watch.

The T-135 model certainly doesn’t shy away from making itself seen. It’s 35 percent bigger than a traditional dog tag, hence the “T-135” moniker. Despite its scaled-up design, the model is only three millimeters thin and surprisingly lightweight. Le Tag T-135 comes in five anodized finishes: Black, Blue, Red, Champagne and OD Green, which mark the base of the cutter. The size of the T-135 is for more than just bravado—the guillotine cutter can accommodate cigars all the way up to 100 ring gauge.

Le Tag is made in Thiers, France, an old city with medieval roots that’s known as the French capital of cutlery, a distinction that goes back centuries.

Each necklace will come packaged in a black branded pouch that can easily double as a caddy for cigar transport. The French manufacturer also partnered with Boveda for the release, as the first 6,000 units sold will come with an additional Boveda humidification pack.

The T-135 has suggested retail price of $90. While the T-135 is available now, another model is set to debut early next year. Called the T-100, this cutter is smaller, meant to be the actual size of dog tags, and also comes equipped with an ornamental plate in various gold or silver motifs.
