HumidifGroup Makes Ferio Tego Interactive With Smart Technology
An increasing number of cigars are coming with smart technology that allows the aficionado who buys them to learn more about the smoke. Ferio Tego is the latest. The brand won’t be on the market until next month, but when the cigars arrive, they’ll be boxed in smart packaging developed by HumidifGroup, the business-to-business packaging manufacturer that’s been fabricating humidors and cigar accessories for more than 30 years. The smart technology will allow end-users to see videos, tasting notes and other information via their smart phones.
Your phone’s browser works with the chip, which is embedded in the box, showing you multimedia information on the cigars inside, including videos, cigar descriptions, authenticity verification and general company data.
“Smart packaging by HumidifGroup allows us to control our messaging and ensure that we are communicating clearly to our audience,” said Michael Herklots, co-owner of Ferio Tego. “Smart packaging technology allows collectors to receive real-time information and communication about Ferio Tego and our products.”
Other cigar companies have also recently made their products interactive. Last year, Oliva Cigar Co. started to put a QR code in every box of Serie V Melanios; in May, the Plasencias embedded a smart chip in the band of its Alma Fuerte Sixto I Colorado; and Warped Cigars put a QR sticker and bubble tag security label on its cigars to help verify product authenticity.
