When the Romeo y Julieta brand turned 145 years old last year, Habanos S.A. announced a special line at the 2020 Habanos Festival to mark the huge anniversary—the Romeo y Julieta Línea de Oro. The commemorative Cuban “gold line” is finally starting to appear in markets around the world, nearly two years late.

Romeo y Julieta Línea de Oro is a high-end addition to the main Romeo brand, much the way the Montecristo Línea 1935 and Cohiba Behike BHK series are ultra-premium versions of their respective core lines. It comes in three sizes all rolled in heavy ring gauges: Dianas, measuring 5 3/4 inches by 52 ring gauge; Hidalgos, a hefty cigar at 4 7/8 by 57 ring and a plump torpedo called Nobles, at 5 3/8 by 56.

Nobles

To emphasize the anniversary, the 20-count boxes are highly decorative, made of sycamore wood stained in a sanguine shade of red that alludes to Romeo’s signature color. An embossed medallion is also set into the lid. The edges of the Romeo y Julieta Línea de Oro bands are trimmed with holographic elements, similar to what you find on Cohiba bands.

The new Romeos have already hit La Casa del Habano shops in Germany, where the Dianas retail for 19.80 euros (about $22.30), the Hidalgos cost 18.50 (about $21) and the Nobles run for 16 euros, or $18. Next week, they will appear in Habanos Specialist and Habanos Point merchants around the country.

Nobles

Later this week, the cigars will be available in Lebanon at the Casa del Habano and Beirut duty-free shops. There the Dianas will go for $18.75, the Hidalgos for $15.75 and the Nobles for $15.

Other markets such as Spain, Switzerland, Portugal and the U.K. have yet to receive the fancy, new Romeos, but are expecting them soon.
